Clean, healthy eating with Stefanie

I keep mentioning it again and again but it’s so true, so I’m going to mention it again.
Living abroad is fantastic, mainly because of all the great people you get to meet.

I’ve been following my friend from Dubai, Stefanie’s, eating journey for awhile now and am so impressed all the time.
I managed to snag an interview with her so I could share her journey with you too.
We chatted about mindful eating, nourishing whole foods and her awesome new job at Fit ‘n’ Tasty, a Swiss start up nutrition and detox company.

Being grateful

I know Canadian thanksgiving has passed but it’s never wrong to count your blessings.
So here are the things I’m grateful for, not just today, but all the time.
With pictures because it’s no fun really without pictures, right?

♥ For my family.
They are the most supportive, loving and caring people I know.
No matter where we are in the world I know I can always count on them.
When we’re together we laugh so much our bellies hurt and we have tears rolling down our faces.
And in my books, that’s a good sign.

Trying something new: a 5 day detox

I have heard about the whole concept of clean eating vaguely and mainly from Instagram pictures.
After seeing a picture of a particularly good looking clean meal on my friend’s Instagram, I decided I wanted to find out some more.
But there is so much information out there!

I asked my friend for some advice and she gave me the titles of some books she read and could recommend, as well as some apps.
Plus you can just put ‘clean eating’ into the search bar on Amazon or Google and tons of suggestions will pop up.
It should probably keep you going for awhile…

To begin I just wanted to read up on it a bit and get an idea of what it is so I bought one of the cheaper books off Amazon.
Opting for the Kindle version is always the cheapest and fastest option (and you don’t necessarily need a Kindle to read it, iBooks works or downloading the Kindle app for another device).
I got Clean Eating Simplified by Emma Young.

I also got The Whole Pantry app which has a ton of recipes that I’m pretty eager to try.

It’s been ages since I blogged I know.
But this week has been a tough one.
We unexpectedly and tragically lost my Uncle to a senseless act of violence.

It’s scary to experience first hand what other people are capable of.
And what just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can do.

I often feel like this is just a nightmare, a bad dream and I’ll wake up and everything is still fine.
But we know it won’t be.
And knowing that is so upsetting, heartbreaking and frustrating.

He was such an amazing, good hearted and inspiring man.
He showed us that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
At 40 he decided he wanted to become a fireman, and he did.
He always told us ‘I’m living the dream’.
He was an inspiration to all who met him and knew him.

The world is a better place because he was in it.
And I hope that someday I can be half the person he was.
To find a job I truly love, to have a caring family and so many great friends like he did.

Today we raise our glasses to you and sing happy birthday.

The world isn’t a fair place and I wish you hadn’t had to leave us so soon.

In our hearts forever you will be.

Rest in peace Uncle Dominic.

Summer is finally here!
I’m back in Zürich and already managed to catch a light sunburn the other day from being in the sun for about an hour!

We can now FINALLY stow away all our winter clothes and fill our closets with our summer stuff.
Oh it feels so good!

For years now I’ve been buying my flip flops from a brand called flip*flop because they are super comfortable, light, have a decent sole, come in all colours and last for ages.

Often flip flops can be flimsy and fall apart easily but not these ones.
As they have a proper sole you can walk comfortably in them for prolonged periods of time (I wore mine all over Thailand).

Sorry I have been M.I.A. for the past few days, I haven’t forgotten about the blog I’ve just been super busy.

I have an exam tomorrow I’ve been trying veeery hard to study for (somehow it’s not really working), I’ve slowly been packing as I leave for home on Saturday and I’m trying to pack up my room so I can move my stuff to my boyfriend’s for the summer. And I’ve been trying to find a new flat for next year. Phew. So many things to do, so little time.

I can’t believe my second year of university will be done tomorrow!

Here for all you ladies sitting exams:
